I’ll take them! I am collecting all types of plastic bottle caps. ANY SIZE, ANY COLOR! They can come from a water bottle, soda bottle, orange juice, apple juice, refill bottles, detergents, etc. There is a bucket located outside of the art room door, just drop them in! Thanks for your help!

This week we started our 1st and 2nd grade art enrichment. The students LOVE it! During their recess, students are invited up to the art room to have some creative time using Legos. We have basic bricks, doors, windows and wheels to create with. We also have some students who are working on our architecture series and constructing the Willis Tower and Seattle’s Space Needle. Students from Mrs. McKenzie’s room and from Mrs. Riley’s room really enjoyed their enrichment time! Next week, students from Ms. Vannorsdel’s class will have the option to come up and create with us!

A picture is worth a thousand words or maybe it’s worth a thousand gift ideas. Art to Remember reproduces your child’s own artworks on a variety of quality items that make ideal gifts and keepsakes for your friends and family.
All students at Stevenson, preschool – grade 6, will be participating in this unique opportunity. We are currently working on all the artwork for this program, but I won’t post pictures…. we’ll keep the finished products for a surprise!! Look for more information coming home soon!

The first and second graders are so proud of their clay owls. We rolled out a slab of clay then traced an oval onto the slab. We used several different clay tools and techniques to create these lovely creatures. The last batch is being fired tomorrow. Look for these clay owls, along with some other art work, to come home very soon!

What a successful night! We had such a wonderful time creating these 3-Dimensional snowflakes! Thank you to all the families that came out on our unseasonably warm evening to make this event a huge success. Many parents commented on what a “special” evening it was and how we need to do things like this more often. We definitely will!
I also wanted to thank Lori Filby and the PTA for donating and handing out the yummy cookies and hot chocolate. It really made the night perfect!

The students painted their masks this week. They just need to add their finishing touches with glitter, gems, sequence and feather. I can’t wait to see them complete, they look GREAT!

Our 3rd and 4th graders had so much fun this week using strips of plaster to create the base for their Mardi Gras mask. In social studies, the students are learning about the southeast territory of the United States and we thought it would be fun AND educational to incorporate that into the art room. I will have plenty of paint, glitter and feathers for decorating the masks. Students are more than welcome to bring in any extra materials like beads, jewels, stickers, etc. from home to decorate their mask.

The 5th and 6th grade classes are working on Hundertwasser inspired landscapes. Friedrich Hundertwasser was an artist from Austria known for his unique architecture and stamp designs. Lots of steps including paint warm and cool colors in layers, cutting strips and circles, drawing a variety of lines and patterns and more layering! The color in these images are striking! I hope to have all the classes finish this project before the winter break. We are on our way!
Below you will find the art work that inspired our current project.
