Welcome back to another year of physical education at Stevenson Elementary. I have a fun year planned with many new activities. Classes meet twice a week for a half hour. We are very active so it is important to dress appropriately. Please remember to wear gym shoes to class so that you can participate. If you forget your shoes, you have the option of borrowing a pair from our share box. Donations of gym shoes for our share box are greatly appreciated.
The entire school will participate in the American Heart Association’s Jump for Heart event. This will be held during physical education classes as a way of promoting a healthy lifestyle. The students will also have the opportunity to receive free tickets to the Wolves hockey game by completing an exercise chart.
For the first time at Stevenson we will be offering some evening classes to introduce students to sports or activities that are not taught during physical education class. The purpose of these classes is to introduce students to a new way of being physically active in a different type of sport. In November wrestling will be taught. In January a baton twirling class will be held. A karate class will also be scheduled soon. Watch the webpage for dates and times.
Walking Club will continue during lunch recess for grades 3 thru 6. Our PTA is working along with me to provide the peaceful playground program again this year during lunch recess.
The fine arts teachers (music, art and pe) will be organizing a variety show this year on March 20th. Auditions will be held during lunch in January. More information will be given out soon.
